Uganda offers two mountain Gorilla Trekking Destinations that are protecting half of the total world population of mountain gorilla species. Mgahinga gorilla national park harbors only one habituated mountain gorilla group called the nyakagezi gorilla family, this habituated mountain gorilla group that is composed of 9 individuals with silverbacks. Mgahinga gorilla national park is closer to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda which makes this mountain gorilla group a migratory group sometimes.

In general, each mountain gorilla group is led by a dominant silverback whose duty is to protect their territories and the families from any kind of danger, the silverback protects the female gorillas, infants, Juveniles, and offspring.
